INFO

Takahisa Fujinami is one of the most popular riders in World trials, and for good reason. His flamboyant riding style, aggression and bravery make him a crowd favourite wherever he goes, as he continually lives up to his billing as an unpredictable yet exciting rider to watch.

At thirty-two-years-old, 2004 FIM Trial World Champion Fujinami, 31 years old, is considered a veteran in a class littered with twenty-somethings. However, the Japanese rider is still one of the toughest and most accomplished competitors in an unforgiving sport where there is no margin for error.

Every inch a leading protagonist, Fujinami challenges for the podium at every round and shows little sign of relinquishing his position among the championship’s elite.

Particularly strong outdoors, Fujinami finished in third place in the 2011 FIM Trial World Championship, just as he did in 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007.

However Fujinami’s consistency once again eluded him indoors in 2011, as he finished in fifth place overall, one place higher than in 2010, but after having finished fourth during the three previous seasons. Takahisa’s 2011 X-Trial campaign nearly came to a premature end at the second round in Marseille when a freak crash left him with a nasty neck injury. Typically though Fujinami was back in action just two weeks later.

Fujinami clinched his first outdoor Grand Prix victory since 2008 on the second day in Portugal in 2010. He won again on day two at the Grand Prix of Great Britain en route to his fourth successive top three finish in the FIM Trial World Championship. It was a welcome return to the top step of the podium for Takahisa after he had failed to triumph in 2009.

More so than any of his peers, Fujinami rides with a smile on his face and he never fails to rev up the masses with his unique celebrations. Indoors he is particularly playful, often flicking the crowd a glance or giving them a knowing nod while tackling a tough obstacle. It is this fun-loving attitude that has endeared him to trial fans across the globe and gained him the nick name ‘Fujigas’.

Fujinami sealed his legendary status, particularly in Japan, seven years ago when he won the 2004 FIM Trial World Championship. It earned him legions of loyal fans, all of which turn out to support him every year without fail at the two-day Grand Prix of Japan.

Now based in Europe, 2012 will mark Takahisa’s seventeenth season at the very top echelons of the sport. Expect him to be up at the sharp end once again vying for GP wins as he attempts to finish in the top three rankings outdoors for a fifth time in as many years.
